ON MAY 23, 1974, the Pi Kappa Alpha, Alpha Tau chapter fraternity house at 51 North Wolcott burned down. The house was originally purchased in 1939 for the Alpha Tau chapter that originated at the University of Utah in 1912. Alpha
Tau has a unique history, including losing chapter status in 1964 for pledging Denny Mia (the 1st Asian Pi Kap); Paul Gamble's ski jump off the roof; and of course, 'Peach Days' by the infamous U-Haul Johnson.
The annual celebrations were always notable, including The Caravan, The Cajun, Casino Night & the Bowery. 51 N Wolcott was infamous for the Coors room, Continental room, Outer Siberia.
SLC beloved Pike locations of the era include My Wife's Place, Snappy's (did they find the missing garbage truck?), Manny's, The Dead Goat, Nick's, Bill & Nada's, .
Without the classic characters at rrKA, we wouldn't have had the times we did. Come join us to celebrate the 50th anniver- sary of the 51 N Wolcott Burn, and Founder's Day: For more information visit our Facebook Event Page ATAA Events.

"Something was always happening at 51 North Wolcott. Day and Night. Except for the hours between 4am and 10 am, approximately, when the house needed time to recover from the previous day’s events. Someone always had a story to tell, or someplace to go, dragging curious brothers along. Or things just started unfolding inside, undetected by anyone except the watchful neighbors."
"The house on 51 North Wolcott Street might be likened to a big circus tent, perhaps, where all kinds of crazy things were going on inside, unseen by just about any passerby."
"The demise of our beloved edifice gave the perturbed neighbors the opportunity to petition the city to rezone the neighborhood, thus excluding the chance of rebuilding it as a fraternity house."
"The frat house living room, by the way, had enough yardage so brothers could stomp around behind the couches and chairs assembled in front of the TV, shouting at the referees, the players, the crowd, and ultimately at each other."
"The greatest sneak in the history of fraternities world wide was still taking shape in Rex Johnson’s head. I’m not even sure he knew how it would turn out. It would have been a great school project for a psychology class at the university."
